About Us

Our company history

We are handing down to each generation the love for our land and our vines, to keep on telling a story that smells of tradition, like the wines we produce. Our family, which has always been dedicated to agriculture, today leads a company with solid roots and a precious heritage that makes us proud.

Grapes were grown on the hills of Pietragnella and in the Dagale in the countryside of Monreale since the nineteenth century. The harvested grapes were vinified in the millstone according to ancient traditions, and stored in the cellars of the ancient Tamburello farm.

Following a centuries-long history, Cavaliere Nicolò Tamburello, founder of the
company in the 1950s, passed on this ancient tradition to his three children. In the 1960s the first vineyard was planted and in the 1990s the new company was inaugurated with the name of Azienda Agricole Tamburello. The same tradition is still perpetuated today with passion, love and respect for the land and its products, exactly as it was then.

Our land

Located in the heart of the Belice valley, in the “Strada del Vino”, an ideal wine road that connects the Tyrrhenian coast to the Sicilian Channel, the Tamburello company extend over 70 hectares, where the crops are mainly diversified into vines and  olive groves

Our products are the result of the enhancement of the potential and typicality of the area, through the cultivation of native vines and olive trees.

An experience that comes from the past, handed down as the most precious of
family heirlooms, but that is combined now with the skills acquired through the years, in a path where tradition meets technology and embraces new knowledge, to preserve what nature has given us.

The earth does not belong to man - man belongs to the earth. All things are connected, like the blood that unites one family. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.

Winemaking

The harvest, or rather the harvesting of grapes grown during the year, is the first phase of the winemaking process. The time of the harvest depends on grape ripeness degree, and on the final product we want to obtained. The longer the fruit remains on the plant, the lower the acidity of the musts obtained from it will be, due to the high sugar content and to the pigmenting substances in it.

After the harvest, grapes are de-stemmed and crushed. The first is the operation that separates the grapes from the stalks to facilitate the release of the must. The second, on the other hand, has the function of extracting the juice and pulp from the grapes, and so creating the must, which will then become wine.

When the must is finally clean, it undergoes alcoholic fermentation, the most delicate process of the entire winemaking cycle. Thanks to the action of yeasts, the sugars contained in the must are transformed into alcohol. Furthermore, secondary aromas originate during fermentation, creating the olfactory base of each wine.

The process of maceration of the skins in the must brings phenolic compounds which participate in the color and general structure of the wine, defining in particular the aroma of the wine. After racking and filtration, the wine will undergo a settling period for a variable amount of time. This moment is called refinement.

After the maturation and refinement phase, the wine is finally bottled. At this point, the wine will have to stabilize again and, therefore, it will be aged in the bottle (bottle aging) for a few months before it can actually be marketed.

Our values

Tradition and passion for organic farming

  • NATIVE VINES AND OLIVE TREES

Organic, like the best fruits that nature gives us. In respect of the environment and health, we have always adopted an entirely organic cultivation, carefully following the entire production chain. We aim at the conservation and magnification of native vines and olive trees, in order to obtain wines and oils that enhance the potential of the earth and the genuineness of its products.
  • BIOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE

Being a wholly organic company was a decision born from the desire to maintain and follow healthy habits, those of the past, when seasonal products were consumed and nature was respected without forcing its cycles; when chemicals were not used and there was therefore no harm to the earth, the environment or the human beings.
  • RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Authenticity rhymes with environmental quality; this is why we adopt innovative practices that allow the reduction of CO2 emissions, we use a photovoltaic system to meet the entire company electricity needs and we have enthusiastically welcomed the international SOLMACC project.
  • CONSCIOUS CHOICES

"Reducing the environmental impact, protecting health and improving the quality of life to ensure a better future even for the next generations is a concrete commitment, a duty, which we have always pursued.” – Mirella Tamburello.
