Tasting notes

The intense ruby red color, the herbaceous notes and the scents of fresh fruit and flowers make Pietragavina Perricone a dry, voluptuous and fresh red wine

The vine

Perricone is a Sicilian indigenous grape variety, also known as pignatello, formerly used to a large extent for the production of Marsala Ruby. Around the early 1900s, due to phylloxera and the decline in requests for cured wine, the perricone was gradually uprooted and relegated to a relic. Today, thanks also to our commitment since the early 2000s in its rediscovery and enhancement, it is experiencing new glory

Features

The Pietragavina line, a name deriving from the heraldry of our family crest, is made up of our finest and most particular wines. Pietragavina Perricone has been present since 2002, the year in which we decided to vinify it in purity to highlight its extraordinary characteristics. Among these characteristics we recall the high 12 presence of beneficial substances such as resveratrol and piceatannol, found in 2003 by prof Gebbia, President of Co.Ri.Bi.A. and Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Palermo.

Advice

To best enjoy this wine, repeatedly awarded and praised, with an enveloping and ferrous taste, pour it slowly into a decantar where it should be left for about 60 minutes: the time to prepare a caponata (recipe here) and a rare steak. Serve in a large balloon glass and fall in love with its tannins.
